How to Style a White Ceramic Vase in Your Home: 7 Ideas That Work

A white ceramic vase is the most versatile object in the house — and the most underused. Here are seven styling ideas that turn a single vessel into the anchor of a room.

1. The Single Stem

One branch. That is it. Take a single eucalyptus stem, a bare cherry branch, or even a dried pampas grass plume. Insert it into a sculptural white vase and set it on a console table or a windowsill. The negative space is the point — the vessel and the stem together create a miniature landscape.

This works especially well with a tall sculptural vase where the vertical line of the stem echoes the curve of the vessel.

2. The Dry Arrangement

White porcelain was designed to frame dried botanicals. Poppy pods, bunny grass, dried lavender, or a small bundle of wheat tied with twine. Because the porcelain is translucent, the stems appear to float inside the vase, creating a layered effect that a glazed or painted pot could never achieve.

Tip:

Group three heights of dried stems (tall, medium, short) for a balanced silhouette. Keep the stems dry — if you add water, remove the stems after 48 hours to prevent staining the porous base.

3. The Stacked Centerpiece

For dining tables or coffee tables, place two or three vases of different heights in a cluster. Use a vase set or mix and match from your collection. Style it one of two ways:

  • Full: Fresh or dried stems in all three, staggered heights
  • Empty: All three bare, letting the porcelain shapes do the work

The empty version is increasingly popular in Japandi and quiet-luxury interiors — the vases become sculpture.

4. The Incense Ritual

One of the most satisfying upgrades: use a small white ceramic vessel as an incense holder. Light a stick incense, rest it on the rim, and let the smoke curl through the opening. The translucency of the porcelain catches the glow of the ember, making the holder itself the focal point of the ritual.

We design our ceramic incense holders with a slightly raised base and a thin-walled opening that keeps the ember contained while allowing the smoke to dissipate naturally.

Safety note:

Always place a heat-resistant coaster under the holder. Although Dehua porcelain tolerates high heat, a small ceramic dish protects your wood or stone surface.

5. The Bathroom Still Life

Small white vases in the bathroom create a spa-like feel. Place a 10–15 cm vase on the counter with a single sprig of rosemary or a small orchid stem. Pair it with a rolled hand towel and a candle for a hotel-bathroom moment in your own home.

The matte or semi-matte finish of Dehua porcelain (compared to glossy stoneware) pairs well with natural stone countertops and brushed metal fixtures.

6. The Entryway Welcome

Your entry table or hallway console is the first thing guests see. A medium white vase (20–30 cm) with a simple dried arrangement says: this is a calm, intentional space. Avoid busy florals — the goal is a visual exhale, not a showstopper.

7. The Meditation Corner

If you have a reading nook, a meditation space, or a small prayer corner, a single small white vase with a sprig of sandalwood or a lit incense stick completes the scene. The translucency of the porcelain creates a soft backlight when a candle is placed nearby, adding a gentle ambient glow without harsh electric light.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I put fresh flowers in an unglazed white vase?

Yes. Dehua blanc de Chine is vitrified at 1380°C and is near-impermeable. However, for very long arrangements (more than a week), we recommend using a liner bag inside the vase to prevent water from pooling at the base.

Will the white porcelain stain over time?

Properly fired Dehua porcelain does not stain. The clay body is denser than stoneware or earthenware. If you see a slight yellowing, it is usually tea or coffee residue on the surface — wipe with warm soapy water.

How do I choose between a matte and glossy finish?

Matte (or semi-matte) finishes create a softer, more natural look that pairs well with wood, linen, and stone. Glossy finishes are more reflective and work better in modern or minimalist spaces with metal and glass. Both are available in our collection.

Are these vases microwave or dishwasher safe?

They are not intended for food storage. If you use a vase as a serving bowl or planter, hand-wash it. The high firing temperature makes the porcelain structurally safe, but decorative elements (if any) may not be dishwasher-safe.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We currently offer free DDP shipping to the United States (7–12 business days). International shipping is available for select regions — contact us for details.
